What Is The Difference Between Video Games’ Release Date And The Street Date?
Someone help me with the question. When a new video game is slated for release, I usually see the release date usually on the manufactuers website and the street date on other sites. The date are not always the the same. What’s the difference?
The Release date is when the company ships it from their warehouses to the retailers.
The Street date is the first date retailers are allowed by the company to sell it.
But somecompanies (Nintendo being the big one) will list the release date publicly as the street date. For example, Brawl was sent to retailers a full week before retailers could sell it, but Nintendo didn’t publicise that at all.
The release date is the day the company will ship the game out, therefore you may not recieve it on that day it is released. However my boyfriend is a manager at gamestop and sometimes if the shipment makes to the airport on the release date he will go pick it up, and have it back to the store by that afternoon.
The street date means you WILL have it on that day no matter what. For example GTAIV was street dated 4/29 gamestop and other authorized dealers recieved almost a week before hand. So it was there on the 29th when consumers come to get it.
Its the same thing basically.
Release date is the estimated date of a game being sold to the public.
Street Dates are given to companies by manufacturers, for a specific date of sale.
Companies usually get the shipments of new released games weeks, sometimes months in advance. But the street date is the day they can actually sell them.
The release date is the official date that the company that creates the game sends the games out.
The street date would be the date that the store receives those games from the company.
Lets see I think one date, is the date when the stores actually recieve the item, and the other one is when the item actually goes on sale for the general public.
